Lessons from the "Little Prince" for emotional rest in summer

In the soft wings of summer, when the weather slows down and the sun caresses the skin, there is a silent invitation that calls us: rest the mind, the body and, above all, the heart.

And then, there are books that accompany us in these pauses as if they were old friends. Among them stands out a small treasure full of light and wisdom, The Little Prince, by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

At this time of year the body asks for rest and the soul?

We live in a world that always demands more. More productivity, more presence, more immediate response, more everything and think less about us! Is it fair?

Deep down, what our heart yearns for is no longer less! Less noise, less running, less weight, less pressures, only less .

True emotional rest begins when we give our soul permission to stop, breathe and listen.

Do you know what that means? Yes to you, you read it right: during the summer holidays, don’t just rest your body. Rest the mind of comparisons, the heart of demands, the thoughts of guilt.

The little Prince whispers to us that “big people do not understand anything alone” and that it is sometimes necessary to be a child again in order to rediscover our essence.

Can I challenge you? Let’s rewrite this story together!

“Indeed, on the planet of the little prince there were, as on all other planets, good and bad herbs. Therefore, good seeds of good herbs; bad seeds of bad herbs. But the seeds are invisible. They sleep in the secret of the earth until a cisme of awakening. Then she stretches out, and timidly throws into the sun a harmless rooster. If it is rosehip or radish, we can let it grow at will. But when it comes to a bad plant, you have to get rid of it as soon as you know it”.

The bad grass are all the more that prevent us from resting and that it is necessary to remove before it is too late. The good grass is the well-deserved rest, that one less we talked about above and that will allow us to rediscover the essence in this holiday period.

The essential is invisible to the eyes

Also reminds us of this wonderful book! What are you waiting for to dive into the pages of this book in these holidays?

The moral of the story is: what is truly important is not seen, it is felt. At a time when everything is image, status, filter, performance and we live real life as if we are permanently in online mode, The Little Prince offers us the cure: feel with the heart.

To rest emotionally is also to look around and choose what is worth caring for: the affections, nature, silence, moments of sharing. Just as the prince takes care of his rose, we also need to take care of our emotions with delicacy and presence.

Cultivate gestures of love and share

You can add the useful to the pleasant, read this book with a child, a goddaughter or a grandfather is more than an act of reading. It is a meeting between generations, where conversations spring up that are kept in time like stars in the sky.

By sharing this work with someone, we plant seeds of empathy, listening and imagination. It is an invisible but powerful legacy. Because who learns early to “look with the heart” walks with more sensitivity and truth for life.

In this book, as in our existence, “You become eternally responsible for what you capture.”

This is one of the phrases that most touches those who read the book. And maybe it is the perfect summary of what it is to love, care and share.

Why will it be? Discover good practices for emotional rest

Think about the beauty of sharing and genuine love, I suppose what you are looking for in this as in other holidays:

“If you take me captive, we will need each other. You will be to me the only one in the world. And I will be to you the only one in the world…”

Here are some good practices of emotional rest this summer

  • Take a book that inspires you: choose readings that touch you deeply.
  • Turn off to connect: move away from the screens for a moment and connect with nature, breathing and the presence of those you love.
  • Create moments of emotional sharing: read an excerpt from the book with someone you love. Share memories, dreams and laughter.
  • Re-learn to play: leave room for lightness, for doing nothing, for contemplation. Allow yourself to exist, it’s all right!
  • Write to your “inner little prince”: a simple letter expressing how you feel, what you need, what you want to take care of.
